FAQ Channel boats

Are the waterways and the locks easy to sail?

The selected waterways are rather tranquil and normally without tides, the current is weak. The currents and tides are tempered by locks serviced by yourself or lockmasters or even automatically when you approach.

What distance can I cover?

The sailingspeed is about 8km/h and crossing a lock takes 20min . Keep in mind when planning a route, you won't be sailing more than 5 hours, covering 30 tot 40 km a day. Take into account the time you need passing a lock.

Beginning and ending?

The term to hire is usualy one or two weeks . 10 -11 days' hire or short trips are an option. The embarkment is between 4 and 5 p.m. On the last day the boat needs to be back at 9 a.m.

Is it expensive?

A channelboat holiday is worth its money. when dividing the price by the number of participants on the boat you'll see for yourself!

What do I do when something goes wrong during the trip?

The company is at your service 7 days/week. Whenever a problem occurs take contact with your base station. They'll lead you through the difficulties.

Any need of a special insurance?

Your boat is entirely insured. The responsibility you carry is for damage valuing the paid guarantee. You're free to choose for an all risk deposit insurance. (to arrange at the base)

Park my car?

At all bases you can park your car for free after unloading your gear. Fenced-off parking is possible for a small fee. Some bases have inside parking lots (paid).
